Organiser's Description
Adventure racing is a multi-sport event that allows you to experience the land by foot, kayak, and bicycle. Gaelforce West offers a majestic route through a wildly beautiful landscape.
Starting on the white sand crescent of Glassilaun beach in Connemara, continuing along the Famine Trail at Killary Fjord, across the Fjord into the Delphi and Drummin Valleys, and to the summit of Croagh Patrick. This event will push you beyond what you thought was possible, and that moment when you cross the finish line will live in your memory forever.
What's Included
OVERALL WINNERS: Winners (male and female) - cash prizes of €250 for 1st place, €150 for 2nd place, €100 for 3rd place, also unique trophies
First male and first female will receive free entry into next year's event.
CATEGORY WINNERS: Vets and Super-Vets winners - trophies; Spot prizes at the prize-giving
(NB: you can only win overall or a category if you start in Wave 1 and do not take a time out)
Bus transfer from Westport to start line.
Race clothing (previous years has been a fleece or Core Stretch jumper)
Race medal upon completion

How To Get There
By car: Westport Leisure Park is located in the seaside town of Westport, in County Mayo, on the West Coast of Ireland. It is just off the N5. Eircode is F28 TY45.
Public Transport: Westport is a terminus for Irish Rail offering 4 trains a day, as well as having regular bus access through Bus Eireann. Please visit their websites to plan your trip.
Parking
There is ample parking at the venue.
Event Details
All competitors must be 18 years of age or over on the day of the race
Registration takes place at Westport Leisure Park only. The start line is at Glassilaun beach in Connemara. Buses to the start line leave from Mill Sreet in Westport town centre. The finish line is at the Westport Leisure Park in Westport town centre.
Mandatory kit. As this is an adventure race there are parts of the course that are off road, so it may take a while for medical aid to reach you. The following is the mandatory kit required:
- Survival blanket and whistle
- Windproof/waterproof top
- Cycle helmet (can be left with your bike at transition area)
- Basic bike repair kit
PLEASE NOTE THAT CARRYING THIS MANDATORY KIT FROM THE START IS FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY.
Although the following is not mandatory kit, it is recommended:
- Suitable cycling shoes and gloves
- Sturdy walking/running shoes
- Waterproof leggings
- Course map
- Energy food and drink. Water is provided for refilling vessels at transition points. We do not give out water bottles along the route.
