Characters include a stick figure with a pink flag, a rabbit with a blue flag, a worm with a red flag, a yellow butterfly with a green flag, and a snail with a white flag, set on a pink background. A banner with light pink background displays a date "03.05.21" in large blue letters. Below it, "Lost Running Race 2021" is written in smaller blue text. On the right, a stylized illustration shows a person running while holding a red flag.

Organiser's Description

In May 2021, 300 people from across the globe will be coming together for perhaps the most unusual running race ever - and you can be one of them.

This race is being curated by a Manchester based design collective bringing together artists, musicians, filmmakers, urban planners and story tellers to deliver an immersive and rewarding race day experience in a time of social distancing.

In this race it’s not the winning that counts, it’s the taking art. Everyone who enters will be posted a unique race pack containing a hand foiled race number, a cherry wood flag, a wheel-thrown ceramic finishers medal, and a specially designed organic race top - along with race day treats and club memorabilia.

All runners will also be invited to a series of workshops and talks, covering avant-garde cartography, weekly yoga, drawing exercises, and route planning sessions, to be held online between January 2021 and race day.

Race day itself? The race can take place wherever you are, and you can choose the distance that suits you; there’s a 3-mile category a 13-mile category or a ‘race of the mind’. This race doesn’t celebrate winners and losers but looks to bring people together though mass participation and a shared belief in the future just around the corner.

All profits from this event will be donated to mental health charities which have recently been stretched supporting people through a particularly difficult 2020.

“Every step forward, however small, is still moving forward.”

Lost Running Race is made possible by the support of NOMA as part of their ongoing commitment to pioneering projects in Manchester.
