Running and Wine Weekend Holiday

Appledore, Kent

Stone in Oxney, Tenterden TN30 7JH, UK

Fri 17th May 2019

Organiser's Description

Trails and Vines brings to you its first ever UK-based running and wine holiday. Based over four days from the 17th to 20th May 2019 you will get a long weekend of fantastic running through the vineyards of Kent, England. Our weekend will start with a relaxed Friday afternoon run from our gorgeous barn-stay accommodation to the local Gusborne Vineyard, followed by a challenging speed session on the Saturday morning and our harder sessions will culminate with a long Sunday run where we will stretch our legs on the historic Royal Military Canal before heading back on the slightly more undulating Saxon-Shore Way. Not to stop there, there will also be a nice, gentle shake-out run on Monday morning before the group leaves us.

Staying true to our tried and tested Trails and Vines holidays in Spain and France there will also be an abundance of home cooked food as well as wine (and beer) with dinner. Best of all we even throw in two trips to local wineries (Gusborne and Oxney Estates) where you will sample the amazing UK produce that is giving the best of Champagne a run for its money.

Friday

After being picked up from the local station, Appledore (1 hour from London) you will be welcomed with lunch. Once everyone is settled in, we will enjoy our first run together through the local trails to the world renowned Gusbourne Vineyard. Here we will enjoy a sparkling wine tasting on the outside decking overlooking the vines and stunning countryside!

We will return home (via car unless you fancy another run!) for a delicious dinner and glass or two of wine.

Saturday

After a hearty breakfast we will head out for our morning run where we will introduce you to some speedwork to help you smash your PB targets and improve your running form. We will tailor the session to every runner so you don’t need to worry about keeping up or holding people back, 2 coaches will always be on hand for support.

After a well earned lunch we will make the short journey (via car or foot) to enjoy a tour and tasting at the award winning Oxney Organic Estate, learning about and enjoying their fabulous still and sparkling wines.

Enjoy some chilled time in the garden or games room in the late afternoon, before we come together for another homemade delicious meal and wine in the evening.

Sunday

Sunday means long-run day! We have a stunning trail route that takes us along a canal and through fields, local villages and vineyards. Whether your long run is 10K, 15K or 20K, you will be catered for with various distances on offer.

We will all come back together for lunch and a good restorative stretch, and for those that have the energy, there will be an optional visit to Chapel Down Vineyard, one of the biggest and most famous in the region.

We will celebrate the end of a great weekend with a BBQ on Sunday evening.

Monday

After a morning recovery run to wake up stiff legs we will share our last breakfast together before everyone departs at around 10/11am.

Accommodation

Our base for the weekend is the beautiful Oxney Organic Estate, an award winning organic farm and vineyard. The estate produces fantastic still and sparkling organic wine, as well as organic lamb, all of which we will sample over the weekend.

The beautiful converted barns within running distance to numerous vineyards including Oxney, Chapel Down and Gusbourne, making it the perfect location for exploring the region. The barns are spacious with great communal areas including a games room and a tennis court.

The closest station is Appledore, which is only 1 hour journey from London (changing at Ashford International).

The Wine

English vineyards are producing outstanding wine that is making waves on the international stage, particularly English Sparkling which often rivals top champagne!

Over the weekend you will sample plenty of delicious local wine through wine tastings and 2 visits to local vineyards. You will also have the opportunity to sample wine sourced from Rioja and Bordeaux (the other regions we operate).
