How To Get There
FROM THE SOUTH
As you enter Fort William from the South, follow the bypass to the roundabout at the end, go straight through towards McDonalds. Before the next roundabout, if you look on your left you will see a large grassy area with ruins called The Old Fort. This is where the race starts and this is transition 1.
FROM THE NORTH
Drive towards the town centre but pass the turn to centre, just past the Belford Hospital on your left to the roundabout at the start of the bypass. Take the second left and you will pass The Old Fort on your left where the race starts
TRAIN
Take the Sleeper Train which travels overnight from London Euston all the way through to Fort William. This is a beautiful and hassle free way to travel, for more information click here.
Parking
Please note that parking at the transition area is not easy, participants are encouraged where possible to be dropped off at transition and suitable parking to be found in Fort William; competitors are encouraged not to park in Morrison’s Car Park for the duration of the event.

Race FAQs
SWIM
DO I NEED A WETSUIT? Yes. Wetsuits are compulsory for the safety of our participants. Any neoprene full-body wetsuit designed for swimming that covers your arms to the elbows, and legs to the knees, is suitable. However, we strongly recommend that you wear a full-length wetsuit. Sleeveless wetsuits are not permitted.
DO I NEED SWIM GOGGLES? Yes. Any open water swimming requires goggles for the safety of participants. Prescription goggles are acceptable.
DO I NEED A SWIM CAP? We will be providing Braveheart swimming caps. A swim cap must be worn for safety reasons. A swimmer is easier to see in the water if they’re wearing a swim cap.
WHAT TIME WILL THE 2019 SWIM START?
Water entry: 06:30
Swim start time: 06:45 (daylight/weather depending).
Please note, this could change due to weather and sea state.
WHAT STROKE CAN I USE DURING THE SWIM? We recommend front crawl but breaststroke is also fine. Please be aware that backstroke is not allowed as can easily be confused with the distress signal.
BIKE
WHAT BIKE CAN I USE? Both Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes are permitted in the Triathlon – please ensure the bike meets triathlon standards of safety, with working front and back brakes and tyres pumped to the recommended pressure. Please bring a puncture repair kit and pump.
CAN I SEND MY BIKE UP TO FORT WILLIAM BEFOREHAND?
Yes, you can have your bike sent to the Off Beat Bikes high street shop and they will get it serviced and ready to go. This service is £35 per bike. Get in touch with Off Beat Bikes.
DOES MY HELMET MEET SAFETY STANDARDS? Your helmet will pass the safety inspection as long as it has no cracks or damage and bears a CE & EU safety mark. The strap must also be in good working order and adjusted to fit.
WHEN DO I RACK MY BIKE? You can only rack your bike on the day of the race; transition opens at 05:45 (TBC)
RUN
DO I NEED SPECIFIC RUNNING TRAINERS? We recommend you get properly fitted trail-running shoes and use elastic laces to save time in transition.
RECOMMENDED KIT
You will need layers of clothing as the top section is slow and cold. For safety we recommend that all runners have a hat, gloves and full-length top/bottoms, whistle, food, water bottle, space blanket. This can all fit in a very small ruck sack.
Although not mandatory, we advise that you wear leggings, and have a top layer you can take off/put on easily over a running shirt. Gloves are useful in case of a fall, as are leggings.
TRANSITION
WHAT IS TRANSITION? Transition is the area where competitors rack their bike and leave a small bag. You will go through transition twice, from swim to bike and bike to run.
WHEN IS TRANSITION OPEN FROM?
Transition will be open from 05:45 (TBC).
WHAT CAN I LEAVE IN TRANSITION?
Please only leave a small bag or box with your race kit inside. Please note that transition is secure but all belongings are left at owner’s risk. Don’t forget to practise your transition routine as well as swimming, cycling and running.
