Organiser's Description

The Shere 42k, half marathon and 10k is possibly Surrey's toughest trail running event; it starts and finishes in the picturesque village of Shere and is run over the stunning Surrey Hills and Norths Downs Way. You can run it, walk it, even nordic walk it, and the 42k version allows you to take part as a team of three. Cani-cross runners are very welcome to enter too. This event is fully marshalled and chip timed and there will be lots of activities taking place throughout the day to keep friends and family entertained while they wait for your return....

Course Details

All three distances have to negotiate a steep ascent for the first half mile (roughly 125m of elevation). The 21k and 42k follow the same route for 7.5km then splits. The 10km and 21km are 'out and back'. All three courses will be marked and marshaled at specific crossing point and junctions. The 10km has one drink station, the 21km has three drink stations and the 42km will have 7 drink stations. All three .gpx files can be found on our events page.

What's Included

There will be medals for all those taking part including spot prizes and of course special awards for the first in each category.

Unfortunately due to rising costs t-shirts will need to be purchased when booking your place.

Refreshments may be purchased at the start/finish line, each competitor will receive an award and a t-shirt to celebrate taking part in the event.

How to Get There

The nearest traim station is Gomshall, this is a 20 minute walk from the event venue. There is a bus route to the viallge from Guildford and Dorking which both have mainline train stations.

Location

The event HQ is based at the Shere Recreation Ground, off Upper Street, Shere, Surrey, GU5 9JF. Shere is situated on the A25 and access is via Upper Street if approaching from the West (Guildford) or Gomshall Lane if approaching from the East (Dorking).

the route

This event will be clearly marked and marshalled

The 10k route heads north out of the Shere Recreation Ground (123m ascent) levelling out along Drove Road, through Oaken Grove and joining a trail that leads down to the Sawmill at Honeysuckle Bottom. From there it’s back up a small incline to return back to the start via the same route you came up on.

The 21k follows the same route as the 42k out of Shere until the junction with Park Farm where it turns left to loop back onto the North Downs via Coomb Farm where it eventually picks up the same route you came along onto the north Downs back to Shere and the finish line.

The 42k has varying elevation but with great views over the North Downs and Surrey Hills.

The 42k starts and finishes in the beautiful village of Shere, the route out of the village is a steep one up onto the North Downs Way.

The 42k heads off to Leith Hill Tower via Wotton Hatch and Friday Street with stunning vista along all routes. Leith Hill is the highest point in the South-east of England with views north to London and south to the English Channel. The 42k then follows the Greensand Way taking in other viewpoints including, Holmbury Hill, Pitch Hill, Raynards Hill, St Martha’s Hill and finally Newlands Corner before heading home to Shere.

on the day

Registration will open in the Village Hall in Shere at 7.30am where you will receive your chip, race number, safety pins.

  • Unfortunately there will be no refunds but you can be defered to next years event.
