Course Details
The race will start at the historic building of Rocca Di Aries, the medival home of a bad ass general Andrea Fortebraccio who was a big deal in the 1400s and pretty much everything in Montone is named after him. You will run on a trail which starts on the top of one of the valley ridges at 1600 feet, cutting through the valley, dropping to a 900 foot elevation, and finishing back up in Montone. You will understand why we called the run a 'shuffle`! So, its up to you...come and compete against a friend or shuffle along with family. Take advantage of the wine stations, and take the kids along for the ride...
Yup, you read it right. Along the 8km race there will be water stations also offering local Umbrian wine for those who fancy a tipple on route.
At the finish line at the foot of Montone village, participants will receive a slice of pizza and a glass of wine (and water) to celebrate their accomplishment.

The Festa Del Bosco Food Festival
Stalls of local produce line the streets of Montone and pop up restaurants serve seasonal food in cosy tavernas. There is much colour and pageantry for all to enjoy, including fire juggling shows, a chance to try your hand at archery, and music playing at different venues around the village, a feast for the eyes and the tummy.
Put simply, this race combines the chance to to get away with your family, partner or a group of friends, participate in an exhilarating picturesque, short distance run, and experience a gastronomic festival in one of the most authentic medieval hamlets in Italy.
Oh, did we mention you will be assigned a region of Montone to run for. The pride of this area will be in your hands...
FAQs
These are some questions our kids thought you may want to know.
Who is putting on the race
The Harrison family, Rob, Fran, Maebel and Fred who moved to Montone from London in August 2018 with the ambition of starting a new life, spending more time with one and other, and outdoors. We love the trails around Montone and The Truffle Shuffle is the first event to combine all our passions.
How long is the race?
It's around 8km winding through some steep gravel trails in the Umbrian countryside.
Is it suitable for children?
Such a tricky one to answer. I'd say 'yes', my wife may say 'no'. Look, it's hilly and 8km. But if you're happy to walk with your children and take in the sights and sounds, I say that's what it's all about: inspire your kids to appreciate the natural world around them.
Is it hard?
It's no walk in the park as its steep in parts and uneven. We hope people will walk along the way to take in the scenery.
Are there things for my family to do?
Yes. The race is on during the Festa del Bosco so there is plenty to do.
Where do I stay?
There are plenty of places around Montone in the villages and towns of Umbertide and Città di Castello but book soon to avoid disappointment. But if you have to drive for 10 mins to get to Montone from where you stay I'm sure its a fraction of your normal commute.
