Event summary

Rural Running is hosting the festive 12 Miles of Christmas event on Sunday 1st December 2019 in Fareham, Portchester, Hampshire. This multi-lap trail race starting at Portchester Castle offers stunning views of Fareham Creek and Portsmouth Harbour. Participants can run as many laps as they can, collecting festive treats, or enter as a team of up to 6. The race is inclusive to all abilities, with each lap being approximately 1 mile. Finishers will receive a 12 Days of Christmas themed medal, and there will be mulled wine and mince pies at the finish line. The event is chip-timed, and there is a time limit of 8 hours. In case of extreme weather, the event may be cancelled, but entrants can run the race on their own time and receive their medals by post. This event is also available as a Virtual Event. Organiser's Description

Lets kick off the festive celebrations for the second year with our own 12 miles of Christmas. Starting at Portchester Castle, our festive event is a multi lap, trail race, taking in views across Fareham Creek and the upper reaches of Portsmouth Harbour.

Every runner will get our awesome 12 Days of Christmas themed medal. 

You can run as many laps as you can, collecting festive treats or you can enter as a team of up to 6.

The event has been put together to make it inclusive to all abilities. it involves running laps of approximately 1 mile.

Every finisher will receive our 12 Miles of Christmas medal.

Teams of up to 6 can enter with each team member needing to complete at least two laps.

There will be festive treats along the way and of course mulled wine and mince pies at the finish. We will do our best to accommodate any food allergies.

Each runner will be 'chip' timed, with each lap they run being recorded automatically.

Runners can take time out during the challenge should they wish. There is a time limit of 8 hours for this event.

NB. In the event of the this race having to be cancelled due to any extreme weather event, within 24 hours of the start, there will be no refunds, but entrants may run the event in their own time, during the month after the programmed date of the event. In this case, runners will receive their medals in the post.

How To Get There

By road: The Castle is on the South side of Portchester, off the A27, or Junction 11 of the M27. Use postcode PO16 9QW for Satnav.

By bus: The bus from Portsmouth takes 33 minutes and costs £2 - £3. The Number 3 bus runs from Fareham bus station to Portchester every 20 minutes.

By train: Portchester train station is situated on the West Coastway Line between Brighton and Southampton. South Western Railway provides an off-peak service of three trains per hour to London Waterloo, and two trains per hour each to Portsmouth & Southsea and Southampton Central. It's then a walk of a 1.6 miles from the train station to the Castle. You can shorten the walk by catching the number 3 bus heading towards Portsea, and alight outside the White Hart.
