Organiser's Description
Open water swimming and events, in general, are in uncertain times at present. Our normal operations have been changed and new GPS technologies introduced to an event that provides a platform for participants to adhere to the current social distancing policies.
Each participant is issued with an individual start time, a GPS tracker, and a swim tow float. Participants engage in the rolling start every 30 seconds and then follow their chosen distance via the course marking.
The added benefit, of course, is that your friends and family can watch the action unfold on the live tracking pages (links provided below).
The Olympic venue, Eton Dorney, offers a beautiful clear lake with clear lines of view. The venue is private and specifically hired for the purpose.

A genuinely disappointing event.
There was no race/safety briefing before the event, rather a pdf sent a few days before hand. This was despite the course changing due to unsafe/poor weather conditions (from an out and back with a point 5km away to 2x 2.5km laps to make the 10km distance).
Despite the safety cover presumably doubling because the course had shortened, it still felt very sparse and very few people completed the 10km distance.
There was apparently an aid station at the turn point but nothing to signify where this person was, no table/sign/flag or similar to make them noticeable. The pre race info said there would be a feed station at the 5km turn, but getting out of the water at 5km into the race to look for a feed station unfortunately stopped my timing and tracking, and there was no feed station there anyway...
I emailed the organisers after the event about these problems and got an argumentative reply and then was ignored.
Race shirts and medals come at an additional cost.
If you're considering a long sea swim and would like a feed station, some communication from the organisers, or even a safety briefing, this is not the one.
