Taking place on Saturday 17th June 2023 the Abersoch Olympic & Sprint Triathlon offer fantastic challenges in a stunning location & one you will relish whether you’re an elite athlete or you’re just starting out in the Triathlon world!

The atmosphere both during the races & afterwards is a reason to be part of it alone! The course is labelled by many as one of the most exciting and satisfying on the triathlon calendar and the bar and music on the beach add to this winning experience. There is £1,500 of prize money up for grabs in various categories, you can race individually or have the option of entering as a relay team so each member can focus on their specialist discipline.

The hugely popular Abersoch Triathlon has sold out since it launched in 2015. Both Olympic and Sprint distances taking place from Abersoch beach, the 2 race options provide fantastic courses starting with a sea swim, then bike and finishing with a run.

The Abersoch Olympic & Sprint Triathlon boasts a location which is quite simply breath-taking! Abersoch is renowned for its awesome landscape & beaches, wide variety of water sports, great shops & restaurants and of course its vibrant bars. You’ll feel very welcomed by large friendly crowds and great support from organisers and fellow competitors.

How to Get There

To get to Abersoch you will need to take the A55 North Wales Expressway. Stay on the A55 until J10 for Bangor and take the A4087 towards Caernarfon. Join the new Caernarfon and Bontnewydd bypass and follow signs to Abersoch. You’ll drive through the Pwllheli and Llanbedrog and then arrive in Abersoch. The race starts at Abersoch Main Beach.

Parking

Parking is available at the beach car park down Lon Golff (Golf Road), which is located close to the transition area and start of the race. There are alternative car parks in Abersoch, for example by the school, along the one-way system. Both car parks are pay and display.

Location

The Abersoch Triathlon starts on Abersoch main beach. Head to the beach car park down Lon Golff (Golf Road), past the Abersoch Beach cafe and onto the slip ramp. Here you'll see the start line for the race.

TERMS & CONDITIONS: All entrants must abide by the race T&C’s. These can be read during the entry process or you can

RACE PACKS: These are only sent out via email containing all the information & final instructions you need in preparation for race day. Registration is between 5pm and 9pm at The Vaynol on Friday or 2 hours prior to each race at the beach (bottom of Lon Golff, near the beach cafe).

WHAT TO DO IF YOU CAN’T ATTEND REGISTRATION This is important if you don’t think you will have time to register & collect your race items in good time before the race starts.
Nominate Someone to attend the registration & collect items for you.
Your nominee needs to provide a letter written and signed by you, giving permission for them to collect everything, or a copy of your original online order.
Your nominee also needs to bring some identification (for example, their passport or driving license).

MEDALS & SUSTENANCE Zinc Alloy top quality race medals with bespoke lanyards, a bottle of water & energy drink & items like banana’s & Mars bars will be given to all triathlon finishers.

TIMING All triathletes will be provided with an ankle tag timing chip, This will record your individual time from when you personally cross the start line to when you cross the finish lines.

DRINK STATION There will be a water & energy drink station at 3k for both Sprint & Olympic distances and a 2nd drink station at 7km for Olympic distance athletes and then again to both Sprint & Olympic distance athletes at the finish.

THE START The start is on Abersoch beach to the right of the middle slip ramp (bottom of Lon Golff / Golf Road). Race Safety briefing is provided via video 3 days prior to the race and is compulsory to watch.

race rules

UK Race triathlons and duathlons are governed by the British Triathlon Federation. All entrants are required to abide by all applicable British Triathlon rules and regulations found in the BTF Rulebook.
Competitors must be 17 or over to enter and take part in the Olympic tri and 16 or over for the Sprint tri
Wearing of wetsuits for the swim discipline will be mandatory and needs to cover your torso as a minimum
This is a no drafting event.
A cut off time will be in force at Transition 2 (bike to run): Any olympic distance cyclists arriving in transition from the bike after 12:00pm will be directed onto the sprint run route.
Unless you are an affiliated member of the British Triathlon Federation you must purchase a Day License Membership at registration. This provides you with third party liability insurance. It’s valid on the day of your competition and cannot be transferred. Please bring £6 cash or a credit/debit card to buy your membership at registration. Please present your day or annual membership at registration to avoid paying this fee.
Triathletes will not hold the race organiser responsible for any injury or loss
Registrants understand that the final decision for the commencement of the race to go ahead on the day is that of the race organisers “Sensation Group” only.
Event organisers are able to amend the course route at any time and without prior notification
All registrants must agree to the race Terms & Conditions when entering
