The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful marathons in the world, following a spectacular point to point route alongside Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland. No wonder it’s on the bucket list of so many runners around the world.

And if marathons aren’t your thing, there’s also the Baxters River Ness 10K and 5K, both races follow a flat route alongside the river in Inverness and are perfect for PB chasers and first timers alike, plus the 10K Corporate Challenge for teams of 4-6 from the same workplace and a Wee Nessie kids' race.

The area is steeped in history, home to castles, misty mountains and, of course, the Loch Ness Monster. With a choice of race distances and festival atmosphere, including an Expo, Runners Cafe, live music, street food and kids activities, the Festival of Running has something for everyone.

What's Included

The Festival of Running kicks off on Saturday 1st October with registration, an Expo for all those last minute running essentials and a Runners Cafe where you can grab some street food, join BBC Scotland's Bryan Burnett for a series of Q&A sessions with running experts or chill and chat with other runners listening to live music. Open at the Event Village, 10am-6pm.

On race day all marathon runners are transported by coach to the marathon start. The route follows a spectacular point to point course alongside beautiful Loch Ness to finish in Inverness. Don't forget to look out for Nessie!

The finish line is at the Event Village in Inverness where you will be greeted by pipes and drums, live music, street food, kids activities and lots more.

Parking

There is no parking available at Bught Park however parking is available at public car parks in Inverness, parking charges may apply. Where possible we recommend walking or cycling to the Event Village, car sharing or public transport.

Location

The Event Village is in Bught Park, IV3 5SQ, which is 1 mile from Inverness town centre, bus and train stations and 11 miles from Inverness airport.

course details

The Marathon starts on the high ground between Fort Augustus and Foyers (B862) and drops down to the banks of Loch Ness at Foyers (B852). From there, the route follows the loch’s south eastern shore, heading north east towards Dores on the northern tip of the loch. From Dores, the race heads directly into the centre of Inverness (B862), turning left over the main road bridge and left again for the last half mile along the River Ness to the finish at Bught Park in the centre of Inverness.
