Participants will have the chance to compete for the prestigious title of 'Dee Mile Champion' by swimming without a wetsuit, with additional categories recognizing the fastest all-comer and the quickest wetsuit wearer. For those who are new to open water swimming or junior competitors aged 12-15, the exciting Dee Mile Half, which covers a distance of approximately 1 kilometer, is a fantastic option. Organiser's Description
This is a classical race with a history going back to1922. The race starts at the Red House pub and is actually a mile and a quarter, swimming downstream around the Crook of the Dee to finish at the suspension bridge. Course times vary considerably depending on the seasonal flow, but the race retains the ancient 'Dee Mile Champion' title for the fastest swimmer, who must live within 5 miles of The Cross in the centre of Chester, and swim without a wetsuit.
Recognition is also made for:
- The fastest all-comer (i.e. those living outside of Chester who don’t wear a wetsuit).
- The fastest wetsuit wearer.
The newer Dee Mile Half (actually about 1k) is a welcome addition for those new to open water swimming, and for junior competitors aged 12-15years.
