Granfondo Milan San Remo

Milan, Italy

Milano, Metropolitan City of Milan, Italy

Sun 7th June 2020

Organiser's Description

Cycling holidays made easy - Sportive Breaks takes you to the best climbs, routes and sportives in Europe without the hassle. Join our team of expert guides, mechanics and local hosts and discover some of the best riding on the planet!

Our packages include return airport transfers, half board accommodation, guided warm up ride & sportive entry. 3 night trips available.

Unique to the cycling calendar, the Granfondo Milan San Remo is the oldest major cycling sportive and the only monument not run over the same weekend as the pro race. The 300km route needs more daylight hours so the event takes place in June, a perfect time of year for a long ride ending on the coast.

Join us for a 3 night break. We stay on Friday night in San Remo and get a warm up ride in over the last couple of climbs, so you know what to expect on Sunday when your legs are tired. On Saturday afternoon, we drive up to Milan to collect entries and have an early meal before the Granfondo, and then we stay back in San Remo after the ride. Our support team includes pro level mechanics and expert ride leaders. We do a warm up ride over the Cipressa & Poggio on Saturday morning and have private feed stops on the Granfondo, so all you need to think about is the riding.

Route Overview

The longest of the five sportive Monuments, Granfondo Milan San Remo is 302km, finishing with the classic climbs of the Cipressa & Pogio.

This 302km route is identical to the pro race with the exception of a start just out of Milan to avoid the traffic, and a slightly different finish location in San Remo. The first 120km is relatively flat before one major climb. As we get closer to San Remo the route gets lumpy, with the classic climbs of the race backloaded.

The start is just outside Milan at 7am. Stick to a nice group for the first 100km and tick this off in 3-3.5 hours, before tucking into the serious action in the last 200km. The famous climbs come 270km into the ride, so make sure you keep something on your legs for a massive attack on the Poggio!! Elevation gain: 1987m.
