Sandridge 10k & Family Fun Run
The Sandridge 10k and family fun run is going ahead with a few covid-19 related changes!
All runners will complete their 10k or 1mile distance on 12th September on routes they have individually planned. Read ‘Race info and Route’ for details of planned changes.
There is a Family Fun Run and a 10k option. Beautiful bespoke wooden medals will be awarded to all finishers - either on the day or by post.
Where: A running spot near you…Heartwood Forest if you can make it.
Why: For health, for fun, for the children of Sandridge Primary School.
With whom: We would LOVE nothing more than to be running together and encouraging competitive sprint finishes, however, we ask you stick to government advice and run only with others if it is safe to do so.
Route: To promote social distancing, you are encouraged to run your own route. Please do stick to footpaths and avoid running over bluebells or other flower meadows. The Sandridge10k was due to be a 100% trail route – see if you can make yours off road too.
Please note, we are unable to route mark or marshal your run!
Water: Hydrate well before your run and look forward to a cool drink when you finish, or take a bottle with you to have on route.
Chip timing: race organisers will no longer be able to chip time your event BUT YOU CAN! Run with your smart watch or phone, link up to strava or garmin (or any other tracking app) and send us the results.
Medals: YES! Our beautiful bespoke wooden medals will be awarded to all finishers of both the 10k and family fun run events.
If you are able to show us your run on the day, we will award your medal then. For those who are further afield, we will gladly post them to you once we receive your tracked run.
Food and Drink Festival: This all depends on the current covid-19 situation and will only operate within Government advice.
We are crossing our fingers and toes that we will be able to set up Race HQ as planned at the Sandridge 1st Scout Hut adjacent to Heartwood Forest so for those running locally, we can award your medals on the day and have a (socially distanced) drink with you after your run.
Please be advised that ALL signed up runners will be notified by email 1 week before the run with the finalised plan with regard to how much of an event we are allowed to host.
Please run safely and look after each other.
Thank you for your understanding during these uncertain times.
Heartwood Forest has over 800 acres of ancient woodland, wildflower meadows, orchard and new forests. Since 2009, a total of 600,000 trees have been planted by volunteers (mostly locals, but a few Royals included!). Local school children have been instrumental in planting the 600 tree orchard.
Sandridge 10k is committed to the beautiful forest creating an event that has virtually no carbon footprint, encouraging families and young people to get fit and get outdoors. Sandridge Village is an integral part of the Heartwood Forest providing a rest and refreshment to visitors.
Heartwood Forest’s 347-hectare (858-acre) site rises from what was once mainly agricultural land. It’s so big that it’s now the largest continuous new native forest in England; a place where everyone can find space, peace, wildlife and miles of beautiful woodland to explore.
Heartwood Forest is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust along with more than 1,000 sites all over the UK and supported by more than 250,000 members. Find out more about the Woodland Trust.
Our official charity partner is Sandridge School which fosters a sense of pride in making a positive contribution to the success of the school family and wider community.
First-hand event reviews from people who’ve been there, done that and got the breathable T-shirt, really help everyone choose their next event.
