The 401 Festival of Running is coming back for the 3rd year to the sunny town of Portishead on the North Somerset coast near Bristol. With amazing views over the Bristol Channel, out to Wales and of the Severn Bridge Crossings, watch as the ships pass within metres of the Events Village - such an amazing backdrop to what is fast becoming an event you don’t want to miss.

With adult races including 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and our famous Festival Challenge (26.2 miles across the weekend!), plus 4 children’s races, there is so much to choose from for the entire family to enjoy.

Event Details

Our events are designed to cater for everyone, no matter if you are a beginner or someone that likes to go flat out, and they are made even more special because of our incredible volunteers who really add to the supportive and friendly atmosphere of the event across the weekend. Whether you are first or last over the finish line, you’ll be greeted with a smile and maybe even a hug. We want you to go away from this event with your confidence boosted and feeling great about yourself, because after all, that’s what running is all about.

Race pack: Your race pack can be collected from the 'Information Tent' in our Event Village prior to your event. Please ensure plenty of time as we don't post our packs out so lots of people will be picking theirs up on the day.

As standard, your pack will consist of an eco-friendly canvas bag that holds your bib number (inc chip for main races), safety pins and a reusable cup. If you have bought or are being given merchandise as part of a package this will be included as well. Any issues with sizing, please let one of our team know and we will do our best to sort it for you, please understand that we don't place big orders so stock is limited.

On the day registration: If we have places available on the day, we will open up 'On the day registrations' in the morning ahead of the day's events. It is first come, first served, we cannot hold palces. You will be able to sign up at the 'Information Tent' in the Event Village. We accept Card and Cash Payments

Terrain: All of our courses are either on pavements, hard cycle paths or coastal paths. Please be aware that the weather will affect some of these terrains so come prepared for a bit of mud. The courses are undulating in places, further information will be shared once we have confirmed each course with UKA and North Somerset Council.

Chip timing: All our races with the exception of the 1 Mile and 500m races are chip timed. Your bib number will include a chip that will automatically calculate your time and will be available for you to see via our 'Results' section within 24 hours of your race ending. This will include your 'Gun Time' and 'Chip Time'. If you have any issues with your time or believe it is incorrect, please contact us via email at [email protected], quote your bib number so we can identify you and we will look into it for you.

Medical Support: St Johns Ambulance will be on hand both in the Event Village and on our courses to support with any medical emergencies that arise during your race. Information you provide during registration, along with details you enter on your bib number prior to the start of each race will be used by St Johns Ambulance when treating you, so please make sure this is accurate. If you see a fellow runner that needs help or you yourself are in distress, please make the nearest marshal aware so we can get our medical team dispatched as quickly as possible.

Water stations: Each route with the exception of our 500m and 1 Mile races, will have either 1 or a number of water stations throughout the course. We automatically provide you with a reusable cup that you can use during the race, simply fill these up at any of our water stations. There will be water available in the finishing funnel area as well. Stay hydrated and if you want to bring your own water bottle or hydration pack, please feel free.

Toilets: There are no official toilet facilities on any of our courses. All toilets can be found in the Events Village. if at any time you come across a dirty toilet or see that anything within the toilet has run out, please make one of the volunteers aware at the 'Information Tent' situated in the Event Village and we will ensure it is cleaned straight away.

Headphones: Headphones are not allowed at our Portishead races due to the terrain and location to roads. We do however allow bone conduction earphones, which are much safer.

Guide Runners: We welcome all abilities when it comes to our races. With blind runners we offer a free place to any guide runner required. Please contact us via email at [email protected] ahead of booking, we can provide a free code and your guide runner will get a medal and race pack as well.

Wheelchairs: Our courses are suitable for wheelchair users, however, please contact us via email at [email protected] ahead of booking your ticket, as this may change once our courses have been officially measured and any alterations are implemented. In some cases, assistance may be required.

Pets: Unfortunately, we do not allow pets to take part in our races unless they are disability requirement

Merchandise: You are able to purchase merchandise ahead of the event. If the site you are booking through doesn't allow this then simply drop us an email to [email protected] and we will be able to send you a pre payment link so you can order ready for pickup on the day of your race. If you need to change your size, or want to buy extra, you are welcome to purchase it from the 'Information Tent' on the day if we have the sizes available. Prices remain the same as online. Great Atmosphere. I did the half marathon, it was hot, hilly and challenging!!!! The marshals were great, very motivational. The support from the public and other competitors was the best I have experienced yet. Good communication from the organisers leading up to the event. The extra water stations were very welcome. We'll done to the 401 Running Foundation and a great weekend x
