The Big Day Out, organised by pureTrail, is set to take place on Saturday 24th August 2019 in Ivybridge, Devon. This exciting event includes two challenging race distances: The Crossing, a 36.5-mile ultra across Dartmoor from North to South, and The Great Escape, a 15.5-mile route starting from Princetown. The Crossing offers runners a taste of ultra-distance running with just 900m of ascent, taking participants through the stunning wilderness of Dartmoor and visiting picturesque moorland villages along the way. The Great Escape provides a shorter but equally rewarding experience, traversing remote moorland wilderness along the Abbot’s Way. With a new finish line and Event Centre at Ivybridge Rugby Club, this event promises to be a thrilling and unforgettable day out for all participants.

The Crossing - We’ve increased the distance for 2019, with a new finish line and Event Centre at the Ivybridge Rugby Club - 36.5 miles across Dartmoor, North to South. An aspirational baby ultra. It’s a tip-toe into ultra-distance running.... but it’s far from easy. It's Dartmoor at its best. Experience the wilderness of the High Moor, the beauty of the periphery. Visiting the moorland villages of Belstone (start), Postbridge, Princetown, and South Brent (finish), the route includes just 900m of ascent.
The Great Escape - Starting from Princetown in the heart of the Moor, the route takes in the last 15.5 miles of The Crossing, with big wide open spaces, and traverses a remote moorland wilderness along the Abbot’s Way.
