The Castle Swim Series - Cholmondeley Castle
The Cholmondeley Castle swim, described by many triathletes as the ‘best open water swim ever completed’ will now be open to outdoor swimmers as an event in its own right. The swim only event provides the choice of three distances: 5km 2.5km and 1mile and boasts a unique and stunning swim route in all the stunning castle lakes.
All swimmers will be provided with timing chips and the races categorised into wetsuits and non-wetsuits. Prizes will be awarded for the first place male and female competitors in each distance.
Cholmondeley Castle is located off the A49 Whitchurch/Tarporley Road, between Warrington and Whitchurch. The entrance to the gardens is off the A49 at the Cholmondeley Arms Pub crossroads postcode SY14 8HN. Railway stations: Chester, Crewe and Whitchurch. Spectators will pay a nominal fee for car parking on the estate and entry in to the grounds. The Castle is a private residence but the famous Gardens will be open. The estate will be marked where spectators can watch and position themselves around the course. All competitors are free and children taking part in the 8-15yrs races can bring in 1 adult per competing child for free. All money collected on the day is being used to help improve the estate for the benefit of the triathlons next year and for future years. It is advisable to bring cash to the event.
The Castle Triathlon Series is offering camping at all UK and Irish castles (but we don’t supply the tent). If you are a camper with a tent or have a Campervan or Caravan take this fantastic opportunity to stay within the spectacular grounds of the Castle at which you are competing.
There will be toilet and showering facilities available at all sites. There will also be an electric hook-up at Castle Howard and Hever Castle which can be added to your booking on the online shop. There is no human waste disposal for caravans or camper vans on any of the Castle camping sites.
For health and safety reasons for both the competitors and swim safety team we have to have cut-off times in the water. These are as follows:
1 Mile – 90 mins
2.5K – 2 hours
5K – 3 hours
