Organiser's Description

Over the past two decades the London Triathlon has established itself as the World’s largest triathlon, with 13,000 participants taking to London’s Docklands to swim, bike and run this iconic route every year. And now 2016 will see the event preparing for an exciting milestone - its 20th Anniversary! Competition for places is expected to be high, with returning triathletes and first-timers all wanting to be at the start line to help celebrate the sport of triathlon, and this must-do event’s Anniversary. There's a variety of distances available, for triathletes (or soon to be triathletes) of all abilities and ambitions, team relay options and kids' duathlons, so with its closed road bike and run routes and superb friendly atmosphere, the London Triathlon really does have it all. 6/7 August.

Combine with a well-planned trip to the capitol. Having been my home for 15 years I recently moved out of London so I decided to make it my first Tri and it was a fantastic experienced, very well organised, structured, and planned from the minute you sign up to when you exit the parking lot at the end! The one thing I would say is to avoid the putting the postcode into your sat nav for the West entrance to EXCEL on Sunday (for the Westminster bike route) as they block off the roads and its inaccessible!!! So make sure you know how to access from the EAST entrance instead otherwise you'll find yourself driving round and around with every other poor sod desperately trying to work out a way to get to the East entrance (you have to drive back down the A13 for about 6 miles - ignore this warning at your peril!) getting stressed about being late - which is the last thing you need on race day. A few Royal Marine friends of mine came down from up north to do it and stayed at my place a few years ago, afterwards I took them to a few choice beer gardens around South London, nothing fancy, that's all you need after a Tri - you still get the London vibe, no need to large it in Central etc.

Well organised but not the most enjoyable ride or run. The event is well organised and enjoyed the single lap swim. The 4 lap ride and run were a bit repetitive and road surface pretty uneven. If you think the London triathlon will be against an iconic backdrop the best you can hope for is a glimpse of the O2 otherwise it’s really very non-descript scenery!

Must do. Really great event I would 100% recommended you do it. Bike route to Westminster is also really fun and fast. Swim is nice too. Overall very well organised it didn't feel as big as it was which was nice.
