Sun 16th June 2019

Organiser's Description

Celebrate 100 years of Forestry Commission England, with a unique 10k running series through the forests of England. Enter any individual 10k event, or conquer the nation's forests and complete the Forestry 100 Challenge and run 100k of forest trails across any ten events in the series. Set in 16 beautiful forest sites around the Country, each 10k trail has its own individual characteristics. Will it be flat and fast, picturesque but punishing, or steady with stunning scenery?

The Alice Holt 10k is a single loop through a wonderfully diverse forest on a multi-terrain course that uses off-road tracks, cycle paths and woodland trails. The great atmosphere provided by the forest and your supporters will help you combat the challenging hills along the route.

Hilly, woody, wet and muddy = Perfect. The key word to summarise this run is "variety." Alice Holt Forest has excellent facilities (parking, cafe, toilets, play areas for children, etc.) and mixed terrain (flats and hills, gravel paths and dirt tracks, wide open areas and narrow sections between trees), so there is something here for everyone. While rain cannot be guaranteed (more's the pity, as running in the mud always feels more hard core!), the trees offer protection from strong winds and shade on sunny days. The Forest Run events are clearly marked, well-marshalled and - best of all - have a neat wooden finishers medal to emphasise the importance of sustainability. A great run.
