Organiser's Description

Wont it be dark?

Yes... That it sort of the point - and it's awesome! You must have a headtorch to run. Our friends at Coventry Runner stock the great Gato Sports USB Head Torch if you need to purchase one. If you want to wear fairy lights, glow sticks or paint yourself in fluorescent paint, fell free. Just make sure you have something to light the way. It'll be dark, as in pitch black eyes closed dark. You will not be allowed to race without a headtorch, your mobile phone torch will not do. We wont be floodlighting the route..! If you've never run at night it is brilliant - maybe have a go beforehand but you don't need to necessarily. We will have some social night runs with some Gato Sports gear to trial before the event - keep an eye on our Facebook page

How far is the race?

10k! This might seem a bit pointless to mention given the name but this is different to a normal Big Bear Event. You'll get the same love, a medal and some goodies but you can't run all night!

Gato Sports?

They are our event partners. They've kindly donated some excellent prizes for our male and female first place finishers.

They were born in 2017 and are focussed on sports, safety and durability. Key to their success is their innovative range of reflective products keeping you ‘the athlete’ visible when out training. Whether your sport is running, cycling, hiking or horse riding Gato Sports will keep you safe and visible in all conditions.

Coventry Runner are our local stockist. We will also be running social runs where you can try out their gear, like us on Facebook to see when these will be.

Entry information

No entries on the day

There is a strict entry limit due to the size of the car park. Once the event gets down to the last places we'll endeavor to make people aware through social media and via the mailing list. Once the event is full a waiting list will be created. This will be available through the normal entry site.

Parking is £2.00 for an hour and £4 for longer at Salcey Forest and will need to be paid. This money goes straight back to the site and is there main income so please ensure you pay.

Course description

The course will be a 2 lap traffic free course and will be confirmed shortly. Salcey Forest is a very flat forest and the footpaths are well formed. Of course a forest in winter will be mucky, slippy and muddy but the route is on established pathways.

Is this a cupless event?

No. Unlike our other events we will have some biodegradable/compostable cups with water and elctrolyte available on the courrse and we will have hot drinks avaialable before and after too. If you have a foldable cup you can bring, even better but we don't insist on it for our short races.

Where is it?

Salcey Forest, Northamptonshire. Salcey Forest is a Forestry England site with a cafe and toilets. Use the post code NN7 2HX for Sat Navs. It is 18 minutes from Northampton and 9 minutes from Junction 15 of the M1. The closest train station is Northampton.

Really good unusual event.. On a cold December night a whole load of us with head torches on turned up at the cafe on the edge of the dark forest. After signing on, there was a good briefing and then off we went, running into the forest. It was well signed and there were a couple of water stations and everyone was super friendly. I heard lots of owls and saw several 'eyes' in the forest which was lovely. Nobody got lost or fell over but I realised my head torch model had be superseded several times over and it is about time I bought a new one! I should have bought one there because there was a running shop selling and helping us all just near the cafe. We got a medal and a badge when we crossed the line and then went into the lovely warm and friendly cafe for a coffee and a well earned cake. Thank you. Great race. Highly recommended.
