RunThrough Running GP at Goodwood Motor Circuit

Chichester, West Sussex

Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester, PO18 0PX

Sun 5th December 2021

Starting at 09:00

Organiser's Description

Join us for our final Goodwood Motor circuit event of 2021 with a unique opportunity to run a 5k, 10k, 20 mile, half or full marathon at this World famous Motor Circuit, home to the Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival. Enjoy the thrill of running a new course and racing your way to a new chip timed personal best on this smooth, traffic free tarmac motor racing circuit at the foot of the Sussex Downs!

Goodwood originally opened its gates to the public in September 1948 to host Britain’s first post-war motor race meeting at a permanent venue. The track is the only classic circuit in the World to remain entirely in its original form.

Each mile will be accurately marked out and we have plenty of helpers to keep you quite literally on track and encourage you on your way to that chequered flag finish. This is a lapped course, with each lap being around 5k.

This is the 3rd time in 2021 I have marathoned it at Goodwood. Plusses: Easy and free parking Lots of 'proper' toilets - no portaloos Experienced and friendly organisers. On course 'marshalls' /encouragers a mixed bunch but ok Vendors: coffee to tee-shirts Goodwood 'Stadium' is made for large numbers of people. So having running events is square pegs/square holes No tree - roots, no rabbit holes, no brambles, no irritating cyclists, no unexpected 3feet deep puddles... NO CARS/TRACTORS/ MOTORCYCLES! It is a road marathon. Each lap has a couple of inclines: not hills! A few undulations are better than completely flat - take my word for that. Definite chance of PB, if you make this event a focus. I ran my PB here in April 2021 Easy to 'dump' your ill thought out running wear choices - rucksack, donkey jacket, trackie bottoms etc beside the track and pick them up later. Perfect - good solid and wide, non potholed surface. Safe for wheelchair athletes, those requiring someone to run with them etc Cons: 11 laps... ELEVEN! Not much to distract you, it's a motor racing circuit - practicality and safety first. Tho when everyone 5k>marathon are on the track there are more distractions The North wind can be chilly, in December it can definitely hinder one's progress - it blows on the up inclines rather than the down(!). I recommend layer or layers that are easy to carry: jackets that squeeze into your pocket or rucksack /bum bag - remember once you are in your stride you'll be 20°f hotter. Nowhere - trees, barns, hedges, shop doorways, open car windows 😀 to pee in if necessary. One has to go off the track to find loos. 1 water stop at the beginning of each lap - however, do we need more? No Haribo, whatever, available - just bottled water. No changing or shower facilities

Well organised event, fantastic support from the marshals. Very windy! It’s an exposed course and two thirds of the course are into a headwind. Great medal and goodies post race. Could be a PB course if you can race it on a still day!

Novel and well organised race. Running on the motor track was a novel, fun experience and, overall the race was very well organised. The course was pretty flat but a bit of a nasty headwind on one section. Great support from the volunteers and a nice medal/goody bag at the end. Do make sure you wear a running watch though as it is up to the runner to keep track of how many laps/miles you've done!
