Set against the stunning backdrop of Tynemouth Priory, this event debuted in 2019 and was awarded Triathlon England North East Region’s Event of the Year. Participants will kick off on the beach at Tynemouth Haven for a challenging swim in the mouth of the Tyne, followed by a scenic run along the riverside promenade and North pier with the North Sea by their side. Organiser's Description
Set in the shadow of the historic Tynemouth Priory, the Mouth of the Tyne Aquathlon made its debut on the local multi-sport scene in 2019. Such was the success of the event that it won Triathlon England North East Region’s Event of the Year, and we are back for 2020.
Participants will start on the beach at Tynemouth Haven and complete two laps of a swim course in the mouth of the Tyne, including an Australian style exit and re-entry after the first lap. From there they will run past Collingwood Monument towards the redevelopments of North Shields Fish Quay. They will then return along the riverside promenade, past the start, and run along the North pier with the North Sea at their sides. On completing their run to and from the pier all participants will finish once again with the Priory looking down on them.
