Polar Bear Challenge
Nr. Coventry, Warwickshire.

Pools Country Park, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry CV8 3BG, UKTue 4th February 2020
Starting at 09:00
Organiser's Description
The Polar Bear Challenge is a 6 hour running event at Ryton Pools Country Park Tuesday 4th February 2020 at 09:00.
How far is the race?
You decide! The 3.3-mile out and back loop at Ryton Pools Country Park means your race can be just over 5k or, given the relatively flat nature of the course, potentially 49.5 miles! You decide how many laps you are going to do on the day within the 6-hour time limit. If you're looking to cover a marathon distance you'll need to complete 8 laps (26.4 miles) and a half marathon will be 4 laps (13.2 miles).
Entry Info
No entries on the day
There is an entry limit. Once the event gets down to the last places we'll endeavour to make people aware through social media and emails. Once the event is full you will be able to join the waiting list through this site.
You do have to pay to park (£3.00 at the time of writing). This money goes directly to the country parks, they are great spaces that do need money and this is their main revenue stream. That said, be a hero and car share, save money and the world!
Course map/ course description
The course route is on the tab above. You can see the type of terrain you'll be running through from our photos from previous events at Ryton Pools. In summary, it's relatively flat with a few little rises that you might not notice much on the first lap, but you might do at the end of 6 hours! Underfoot is crushed stone with a very small section of single track and a few areas that are a little looser than others. It is a very runnable course.
Has the event been run before?
Sort of! We have held 2 Big Bear Challenges here, this will be the first Polar Bear Challenge but it is the same in all but name! This will be part of our Bear Series. Check at RaceCheck for reviews of our previous events.
Is there a GPX file?
Yes above.
Where is it?
Ryton Pools Country Park, Warwickshire. Use the post code CV8 3BG for Sat Navs. It is 15 minutes south of Coventry and 15 minutes from Junction 16 of the M1. The closest train stations are Rugby and Coventry.

Event Details
Race Registration opens at 08:15
Race Briefing at 08:50
Race start at 09:00
Your last lap needs to be started at 14:59:59 at the latest. This means you could do 1 lap and be done by 09:15 or you could try and do 15+ laps and run 40+ miles! It's completely up to you. You might just want to run for 3 hours, whatever you want to do is your decision.
Only complete laps will count towards your official time/distance, no half laps. Once you're out of the race you're out of the race, you can't run one lap, go home have a cup of tea and then come back and run some more! Once you have the medal around your neck you are signed out and finished.
We will usually add a “mini-lap” to help people complete marathon distance if needs be.
We will have a small area under the gazebo where the aid station is, where you can leave a bag, but it is not 'secure' so it is left at your own risk entirely.
