Organiser's Description

Join us in the Summer of 2024 for the first-ever Rasselbock Marathon and Half Marathon in our stunning home grounds of Sherwood Pines. It’s sure to be an incredible day in the forest as we welcome runners from all walks of life to hit their goals. Be it your first-ever Marathon, Trying for a new PB, or just wanting to be in the forest with friends, we have you covered.

We have two options for you on the day, the full and the half marathon. The half marathon will be a beautiful 13.1-mile loop around the Sherwood Pines forest, and the full marathon will have you complete the loop twice. The trails and fire roads will take you around all areas of the forest, from those teaming with life to areas of blissful quiet. The official route will be announced closer to the event but you can expect roughly 250m of elevation on each loop. (see the Preliminary route here)

Both events will have very generous cutoff times, being 5 hours for the half marathon and 8 hours for the marathon. We want to encourage people of all abilities to complete the challenge they want to complete

------------------

The start and finish line will be located in the area of the forest called the arena, and in the center will be the event village. When you return to the arena at the end of your run (and halfway through if you're taking on the marathon), you will run a loop around the full event village where you can expect support from everyone watching and waiting, as well as the event MC and DJ.

Within the event village, we will have the usual bag drop, information tent, and medic area for those who are running. Alongside this, you will find a selection of local food vendors and a bar, alongside small and local running businesses for you to visit. Expect an area full of games and past times near the stage where you can relax whilst you wait for your friends and family member to finish their run!

Marathon Start Time - 10am
Half Start Time - 10:30am

How to Get There

The nearest train stations are Mansfield and Retford. Mansfield has a public bus to the county park roughly every 15 minutes (Bus No. 14, 15 or 15A to Archway Road or Sherwood Pines). This does vary at the weekend and it is always best to check the timetables before booking. After the bus, there is around a 1-mile walk into the forest to the start line. Usually, on a Sunday morning, it is best to pre-book a taxi to the start line. If you are staying overnight before the event and using public transport, then I would recommend looking at places to stay in Edwinstone, Clipstone, or Ollerton. All are a very short taxi ride from the forest.

Parking

There is a large car park with Sherwood Pines Forest which we are permitted to use. There is a charge for the car park which can be found on the Sherwood Pines website. We will supply a 50% parking discount code to runners only in the lead-up to event day.

Location

The forest will be open from 8am, and from the car park area, you will need to head towards the visitor center (the only buildings on the site). From the visitor center, you will take a right and head past the cafe, and the event village will be directly ahead of you.

course details

The route is still subject to change but it will consist of the same 13.1 mile loop run twice around Sherwood Pines Forest. You can view the preliminary route in the link below, but please be aware that it may be subject to change before race day. If changes are made then every attempt will be made to keep the elevation as close as possible to that shown. (approx 450m - 225m per loop)

The Terrain of the route is classed as mixed, as you’ll encounter forest paths, compact fire roads, as well as a slight bit of sand. The route is very achievable in road shoes but trail shoes are also usable on the route. This is not a road marathon.
