In 2015, runners braved near-hurricane strength winds and ridiculous driving rain to tackle the inaugural Run the Blades, but despite this there were some cracking times. Bridging the gap between marathon distance and the longer ultras, the Run the Blades 50k offers the opportunity to step up from road to trail, and an introduction to ultra running. This year, we’re looking at an even bigger and better event with 3 distances taking place: 50k, half marathon and 10k. Stunning yet exposed landscape and 20 minutes from central Glasgow, this challenging course crosses mixed moorland, travels through forests and past wind turbines that tower 140 metres above the trail.

Well organised in great location. First time doing Run The Blades & it didn’t disappoint. Set in Eaglesham moors Whitelees Windfarm is UK’s largest & it is quite an exposed spot & can can a bit windy (great spot for a wind farm). 3 distances to choose 10k, half marathon & 50k. Half marathon for me & the course is mainly compacted corse stone/gravel & on the day due to heavy overnight rain there was one part where we had cross water due to a burn bursting its banks. All part of the fun. 😬the last 5 miles were into quite a string head wind & with about 2 mile to go you are faced with “that hill”. It’s a bit of a leg sapper especially into the wind it was like running in slow motion. But all in all it’s a great course and you get a fantastic medal a decent goody bag at the finish.
Be back next year for the Ultra👍🏻
