Organiser's Description

If you’re new to running, or a half marathon isn’t your thing, you can still be a part of the iconic Simplyhealth Great North Run weekend at this popular 5k. Soak up the atmosphere as you cross the Quayside finish line, on the banks of the river Tyne. This 5k course offers views of the Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside from both sides of the river. (Start times tbc)

Course Details

Runners start on the Newcastle side of the River Tyne, cross over the Swing Bridge, then loop to the West before heading back down to pass the Sage on the Gateshead side. The last kilometre goes over the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, before the final straight back on the Newcastle side.

Short course but good atmosphere. My Garmin stopped at 2.9 miles and the course organisers have admitted the course was short by 300 metres! Good atmosphere though and a nice prelude to the great north run.
