Something Wild Trail Running Festival
Sat 31st July 2021 - Sun 1st August 2021
Organiser's Description
The Summit Wild Ultra kicks off our festival on Saturday 31st July, at 8.30am.
Even though it is by no means an easy race, with the total climb coming in at 1381m (4533 feet), the distance is ideal whether this is your first or your 100th ultra. This is a unique route across Dartmoor and many of our runners have returned, saying it's the best route they've done on Dartmoor or anywhere else in the south west!
The race starts alongside the marathon and incorporates the marathon circuit plus one lap of Sunday’s 10k route.
The route is ideal for spectators as it passes through the fulcrum at the cow shed and tail end runners will be received by our live band Betmax.

Course Details
ULTRA - 33.62 miles, 4614 feet climb
The route completes an initial 8m loop of Bellever before following the marathon route out to Puppers Hill via Yartor Down, Dr Blackall’s Drive (Two Moors Way), Scorriton and finishing with the 10k loop.
MARATHON - TOTAL CLIMB 1325 METRES (4347 FEET)
The trail marathon is our blue ribband event. Starting and finishing at the festival site at Huccaby, it crosses the fulcrum of Dartmoor where east and west rivers meet at Dartmeet and completes a circuit of Bellever woods via Yartor, Babeny and Sherwell Farm. From here you will head east along Dr Blackalls Drive, crossing the river for a second time at New Bridge following a bone jarring descent and heading in to Holne Woods, then on in to Hembury Woods, skirting the brook before ascending the steep climb up Pupers Hill via Scorriton.
HALF MARATHON - TOTAL CLIMB 754M (2544 FEET)
Make no mistake: This is a tough half marathon, but you will be well rewarded with some of the best views that Dartmoor has to offer. The route starts and ends at the festival site at Huccaby Farm, crossing the river at Dartmeet before climbing gradually to Sharp tor and along Dr Blackalls Drive to New Bridge, from where you will enter Holne Woods.
10 km - TOTAL CLIMB 324 METRES (1063 FEET)
The 10K, which is nearly all off road is the first event on Sunday morning. It is the ideal course for all level of runner. The route follows most of the initial loop of the marathon course, crossing the fulcrum of East and West Dart rivers before ascending towards Yartor, Babeny and Sherwell farm but does not go as far north as Bellever. You will return through Brimpts farm. From here it is a half mile sprint mainly down hill to the finish at Huccaby farm. The cut off time for this event is 2 hours.
5K TOTAL CLIMB 170 METRES (560 FEET)
The 5k will start alongside the 10k and split at the bridge at about the halfway point. You then follow a great path along the West bank of the Dart before rejoining the very end of the 10K route.
