Testway Ultra

Sat 5th April 2025

A group of runners gathered at the starting line under a large black inflatable arch, preparing to begin a race. They are outdoors on a gravel path, surrounded by greenery. The participants are wearing various running gear and race bibs with numbers. A large group of people trail running along a dirt path in a scenic, sunlit countryside with rolling hills and fields of grass. Another person stands to the side, possibly a guide or organizer. The sky is clear with a few clouds, and "Andover Trail Events" is written in the lower right corner. A group of people wearing running gear, numbered bibs, and hydration packs run along a dirt path in a lush forest. The runners navigate a slight uphill section surrounded by trees and greenery on both sides. The atmosphere appears energetic and focused. A person wearing a blue tank top, pink shorts, and pink knee-high socks is running on a muddy trail in a forest. They are balancing on large, round stepping stones made of tree stumps. The trees around them show sparse leaves, indicating early spring. A runner in a pink shirt, black shorts, and maroon socks with number 159 on their shorts is running on a gravel path near a small wooden bridge. Trees and greenery surround the area, and the runner is raising both arms in a cheerful gesture. A line of runners on a trail winds through a sunlit, rural landscape with grassy fields and distant hills. A few trees dot the horizon. A man stands on the trail, possibly a race official. The logo "ANDOVER TRAIL EVENTS" is in the bottom right corner.

This race was on the whole really well organised. Mark and his team put together a great event. My only comments would be that I would have liked to have received initial email comms a little earlier than I did to reassure me that everything was going to plan (which is clearly was and did). Course marking was pretty good. There were a couple of confusing spots but I suspect that was mostly down to some 'erbert nicking arrows. Mark and his team were friendly, helpful and professional and I would recommend this race to anyone wanting to do their first 50 miler (as it was mine) Massive thanks to Big Dave and his partner at aid station 3 for helping me out of a massive low spot and fixing me so that ultimately I was able to finish.

I really enjoyed this race, despite the physical pain I am in at this moment while I write this. Very friendly and helpful staff at every part of the race from start to finish, including all aid stations in between. What a day... conditions of the trail were unfortunately as bad as they get due to heavy rainfall in the week leading up. At least half the trail was a total mudpit or a lake, making this year's race extra challenging. It was my 1st ultra so I don't have a lot to compare it to... but I can say that the support from the staff was fantastic, always smiling and encouraging us every step of the way. Highly recommend this event, you'd be unlucky to encounter conditions this bad again... but like I said, it just added to the challenge and made it all that more satisfying when we crossed the line in Totton.

My first ultra so have nothing previous to compare with but it was certainly a lovely route, a real mixture of terrain and views. The event was extremely well organised. Everything ran smoothly, the aid stations well-stocked and support great.

Great event. I have run several ultras but this was easily the best organised one I have run. The team were really helpful and friendly and the day ran like clockwork. A great days running!
