Organiser's Description
This event is being held at York Sports Village on the 1k cycle circuit, during the Jorvik Viking Festival, and is named after the notorious Viking King, Eric Bloodaxe. Do as many or as few 1k laps as you wish within the 2 hour limit! The choice is yours. No matter how many laps you do, all runners receive a bespoke medal and a goody bag - and homemade cakes- at the end of the race!
Brilliant, inclusive event. This is the second year I have taken part in the Bloodaxe Challenge and both years I have really enjoyed it.
The fact that it a time limited event means there is no pressure to compete with other runners, you can just go at your own pace and set a target of however many laps you want to aim for.
It caters for entrants of all abilities, from those just walking a few laps to the elite runners aiming for pb's. It is chipped timed but you are also free to stop and have a rest and a bit of cake if you want to, and then carry on. There are fantastic medals and goodie bags to everyone who completes a minimum of 1 lap too.
I would definitely recommend this event. I'll be doing my 3rd year next year for sure.
