Organiser's Description
UMUK is an extreme ultra-distance staged triathlon event, held in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. UMUK has attracted athletes from around the World and is widely considered one of the toughest ultra-distance staged triathlons in the World, due to its +20000ft (6000m) of ascent, with both long and gradual, and short but brutally steep, climbs.
Day 1 sees a 6.2 mile swim in the beautiful (slightly cold but pleasantly invigorating) Bala Lake being immediately followed by a one loop 90 mile bike ride. Day 2 features a 171.4 mile ride, starting and finishing in Betws-y-Coed. On Day 3, Mt. Snowdon is central to the 52.4 mile double-marathon run, which also begins and ends in Betws-y-Coed.
The race is by invitation only. Competing in UMUK is an enormous undertaking which requires a huge amount of dedication and determination. Applicants must meet certain criteria and the selection of invitees will be based upon the experience and qualifications of each applicant. In addition, each racer must be accompanied by an individual support team of at least two people over the entire course. (Details tbc)
