The course loops around one of London’s flattest and most scenic parks, starting and finishing at the iconic bandstand. Clear kilometre markers and a closed-road feel help you stay focused, while a lively crowd of volunteers keeps energy levels high.

Mount Ephraim 10k (Kent)

The race winds through country lanes around the Mount Ephraim Gardens estate, taking in views of the Kent countryside. The course rewards strength and pacing discipline, but it’s no less capable of delivering a quick time.

Why do these races give you a genuine PB shot?
If you want to hold your target pace from start to finish, a flat course can make all the difference. Most of the races in this guide are pancake-flat, letting you settle into a rhythm without sudden spikes in heart rate from unexpected inclines. That consistency often turns a solid run into a new personal best.
Traffic-free routes remove the stress of crossings, obstacles and crowd weaving. It might sound minor, but having uninterrupted focus makes a big difference when you're trying to sustain effort through the middle kilometres.
Surface quality also matters. Events like Battersea Park 10K and Victoria Park 10K offer smooth tarmac and generous path widths, helping you keep cadence and flow without disruption.
Timing is another factor. Many of these events take place in spring or early summer, when conditions are cool and stable enough to support fast racing. Seafront races such as Worthing 10K and BrighTEN Seafront Run can be breezy, but on the right day they become ideal stages for quick running.
And of course, a strong field helps. It’s easier to hit a time when you're running with others at your pace. Some of these events, like Dorney Lake 10K and Mount Ephraim 10K, show a mix of club-level talent and broader participation, giving you the option to race tactically or simply chase down the next vest ahead.
Planning your fastest 10k
If you're targeting the fastest PB-friendly environment, races like Battersea Park 10K and Victoria Park 10K are strong bets for their flat loops, quick fields and reliable organisation.
Prefer something coastal? Worthing 10K and the BrighTEN Seafront Run combine scenery with speed, making them great picks for late winter or summer targets.
If you’re after a smooth, no-nonsense race with zero sharp turns, the Dorney Lake 10K gives you just that. And if you want a scenic challenge that still attracts a strong field, the Mount Ephraim 10K is a great option.
When should you race?
Most of these events fall between March and October, making them ideal for spring goals or summer tune-ups. If you're building towards a big autumn race, events like Victoria Park or Dorney Lake can act as great markers of fitness.
Wherever you're at in your training cycle, choosing a well-matched course is one of the easiest ways to stack the odds in your favour.
