read onIn 2017, more than a million people took part in Spartan Races across 30 countries. In the UK alone, 2017 saw runners conquering 250,000km of muddy trails and doing a staggering 2 million burpees. This year the obstacle race series will be the biggest it's ever been with 25 races across UK and Ireland.
The Series kicked off earlier in the month with a weekend of races in Kent. The Race Director, Sam Lansdale has laid down the challenge, “to roast the couch potatoes”, speaking at the series launch Sam said Spartan Races appeal to everyone, not just the super fit, “We have mums, dads, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters and many others taking part, who are maybe just looking for a new fitness challenge. The Spartan Sprint is an accessible challenge. Even if you are overweight or if you have never run before, it's something that anyone can do.”
There are three main types of Spartan Race, a Sprint (5km+), a Super (12km+) and a Beast (22km+) and it's also open to juniors, with a record eleven Spartan Kids races planned this year. Children aged 4-13 run a 1.5km course.
