A closed road course taking in the famous landmarks of Gateshead, before entering the iconic Gateshead International Stadium and running around the track to cross the finish line, cheered home by family and friends.

Gateshead International Stadium is the North East’s only IAAF-standard athletics stadium. The venue has hosted IAAF Diamond & Golden League Athletics and the European Cup featuring the superstars of athletics. You will be joining many World Champions & Olympians who have crossed the finish line at Gateshead International Stadium, where World records have been broken in track and field on the famous track.

How To Get There

Race Village & finish area are in the Gateshead International Stadium, with a short walk to the start area on Felling By-Pass.

By Metro: We advise runners to travel by Metro to Gateshead Stadium Metro station, which is a short walk from the Stadium. Metro trains run a frequent service from Newcastle, Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Newcastle Airport and North Tyneside. For service information and timetables check nexus.org.uk/metro

There is a Metro Park & Ride to Gateshead Stadium Metro station from: Callerton Parkway, Regent Centre, Four Lane Ends, Northumberland Park, Heworth and Stadium of Light Metro Stations.

By bus: Routes will be affected by road closures for the event. It is possible to get bus services to Newcastle City Centre, Gateshead or Heworth Metro Stations then use the Metro to get to Gateshead Stadium Metro Station.

By rail: The nearest train station is Newcastle Central Station (East Coast Line). Travel from Newcastle Central Station to Gateshead Stadium station using the Metro.

By road: The Stadium is signposted from major roads in the area, however routes will be affected by road closures for the event.

A1 (from the North)
Follow the A1 Southbound until the turn off for the A184 (Gateshead Town Centre). Follow diversions along Sunderland Road to event car park at Bede Primary School OR preferably park at a Metro Park & Ride.

A1 (from the South)
Follow the A1 Northbound, turn off the A167 (Gateshead South). Pass the Angel of the North on your left. Follow road to the centre of Gateshead then follow diversions along Sunderland Road to event car park at Bede Primary School OR preferably park at a Metro Park & Ride.

A69 (from the West)
Follow the A69 until you meet the A1. From there follow directions as from the A1 North.

A19 (from the East)
Follow the A19 until you reach the Whitemare Pool roundabout. Turn right onto the A184 (Gateshead). Continue onto the A184 until Heworth roundabout, there is a Park & Ride Metro Car Park from Heworth Metro Station to Gateshead Stadium.

Other Information

Each mile will be accurately marked out with distance flags and we will have plenty of helpers to keep you on track and to encourage you on your way to the finish.

Once you enter you will receive a confirmation email. More information about your race pack and the big day will be sent to you closer to the event.

Course Details

This ROAD CLOSED half marathon starts on the Felling By-Pass and heads towards Heworth roundabout, before turning and running towards Gateshead roundabout and then back towards Gateshead International Stadium.

The course will then head down to the picturesque Quayside area and will pass the iconic Gateshead Millennium Bridge, Sage Gateshead, BALTIC Centre For Contemporary Arts, run under the iconic Tyne Bridge and past the historic Swing Bridge before turning back to pass these landmarks again.

The course then re-joins the Felling By-Pass and heads once again to Heworth roundabout and Gateshead Roundabout before entering the World famous Gateshead International Stadium, and finishing with a run around the track and crossing the finish line.

What is the minimum age to enter an event?

17 years old for the Half Marathon.

I can't make the event, can I have a refund?

Sorry, we don’t offer refunds. However, if you let us know 14 days in advance of the event we can transfer your entry to a friend or to a later event.

Will I receive anything through the post?

No, nothing is posted. You will receive all race information by email and you will collect your race pack on the day of the event.

Do we collect our Timing Chip and Race Number on the day of the event?

Yes, that is correct. Please make sure you arrive at least 45 minutes before the race start so you have plenty of time to collect them.

Where can I find my results after the event?

Your results will be live on the website www.runthrough.co.uk during the event. If you have any questions or queries with your results please email [email protected]

Am I allowed to wear headphones?

We’d strongly advise against it – the nature of the events means that you need to be aware of your surroundings and be able to hear marshals instructions.
