South Downs Way Ultra Run

Sat 19th October 2024

A group of eleven smiling people, dressed in outdoor athletic gear, pose around a concrete marker on a grassy hilltop. Some give thumbs up, and the sky is partly cloudy. The group appears enthusiastic and happy, suggesting a successful hike or run. A group of people wearing athletic gear stand on a grassy hill with expansive views of the coastline and ocean in the background. The sky is clear and sunny. A group of people standing on a cliff by the ocean, holding a "Running Adventures" banner. They are all smiling and waving at the camera, with a clear blue sky and ocean waves in the background. A group of people running on a gravel path through a hilly, rural landscape. They are wearing colorful athletic clothing and backpacks. The path is surrounded by greenery and small trees under a clear blue sky.

Organiser's Description

Starting and finishing on the beautiful Harting Down, this run features some of the best parts of the South Downs Way and surrounding areas, including Beacon Hill, Cocking Down and Kingley Vale.

You will be guided by myself, an experienced ultra runner, running coach and Salomon athlete. This run may be hilly, but is still perfect as your first taste of ultra running, the route is taken care of and you will get the chance to learn from an experienced ultra runner, and get any running questions you may have answered.

We will explore the trails of the South Downs Way before heading towards the south coast through ancient woodland, small villages and nature reserves. We'll visit Kingley Vale, Kingley Vale is known for its twisted and ancient yews and includes a grove of veteran trees which are among the oldest living things in Britain. The run will also see us pick up the Sussex border path and small sections of the Shipwrights Way and the Staunton Way.

We finish where we started on Harting Down, where we will say our goodbyes.

Pace: This is not a race! We will run as a group and share this experience together. I advise that you have run at least 22 miles in training before trying this event. You should be able to comfortably run an average pace of 10 min/miles | 6 min/km for prolonged periods of time on the trail, and have a suitable level of fitness. Ultra running first timers encouraged!
