Public Health England, the police, ambulance service and all council departments have shown their full support for our new event format, and the event as a whole follows all government guidance on social distancing and hygiene practices.

Organiser's Description

Cheddar Gorge 10km - #thefastest10km in the country!
This is a fully closed roads event. The route starts with a gentle fall and rise, just to warm you up, as we line you up with the top of Cheddar Gorge. With the right turn that comes at 2.5km, you are now at the very top of Cheddar Gorge and on a 7.5km long downhill run to the finish. On the 7.5km downhill section you will drop 150m+ of elevation making this #thefastest10km in the country!

We are super excited to be organising the very first closed roads running race through the iconic Cheddar Gorge. Runners will get to soak in the amazing views of the 450ft high cliffs on roads which are usually dominated by cars. This is a unique opportunity to appreciate the wonder of the gorge and run a rather fast time too!

What's Included

The race registration is all inclusive at £35 per person and includes event parking, event shuttle buses, alongside everything you would normally expect; bespoke event medal, chip timing and our usual incredible feast station at the finish line.

How to Get There

As this is a Point to Point race, with two parking options (for your car/bike), there are a few things you need to consider and chat with your friends about before you book so you are in the same group of runners. Please take a look at the Event Info and Schedules page before you register to see the timings for the day.

Option 1: Warren Farm Option - Park at the start, walk from the finish to Winchester Farm, and catch the bus back to the Warren Farm.

OR

Option 2: Winchester Farm Option - Park at Winchester Farm, catch the bus to the start at Warren Farm, walk back to Winchester Farm.

The walk from the Finish area back to Winchester Farm is just under 2 miles. You will walk through Cheddar Village on the way, a perfect opportunity to grab a slice of Cheddar, refreshments or stop off for a spot of lunch.

information to note

Whilst there is no formal cut off, runners should be aiming to finish the event in no more than 90mins so you have time to enjoy your race experience before we need to reopen the roads. The event is open to buggy runners - please note the steepest part of the route is -17% so you need to strap your little one in tight! We strongly recommend that buggy runners start at the back of their wave so they have more space. The event is not open to canicross runners or walkers (mix of run, jog, walk is absolutely fine!) Minimum age to take part is 15.

This event will not be included on UK Athletics' database list of official PBs as they don't recognise events with such a large elevation drop in their rankings.

There are great group discount rates for groups of 10 or more runners taking part in races of any distance, on the same date. 10-19 runners save 15%, 20-49 runners save 20%, 50+ runners save 25%. All bookings must be made in advance of race day to qualify for the discounted rate. We ask all groups to be registered at least four weeks in advance of the race date to we have the opportunity to top up our medal order if necessary.

format

The road which we are starting the event on is a single carriage width and relatively short, so we will therefore be setting runners off in waves.

When you register, you will have the option to sign up to one of twelve waves. You need to register in the same wave as your friends to guarantee you can start together. This gives us the option to start runners in small waves should that be necessary, or in larger waves to give you the normal mass start feel. Wave sizes will therefore be between 250 or 1,000 in size. If you would like to have a bit more space for your run, there will be plenty of space at the back of each wave.

All runners will be set off across a 30min window, between 09:30 and 10:00am. It is likely that the runners who have parked at Winchester Farm and caught the bus to the start will be in the first waves to start, 09:30 - 09:45. And the runners who have parked at the start, at Warren Farm, will start 09:45 - 10:00. We will produce the final schedule in the weeks immediately before the race.

Runner drop offs

It is very easy to drop runners off at Winchester Farm.

Drop Offs at Warren Farm will also be possible but it will very much need to be a very quick drop and go at the side of the event car park.

spectators

As this is a closed roads race, there are no locations that spectators can drive to and park on the course. If you have spectators with you, we would recommend you register with the Winchester Farm option and from there you can walk to the Finish. The route from Winchester Farm to the finish line will be signed.

There is no easy way for spectators who are based at Warren Farm to get to watch the race so we would not recommend this option if are planning on coming with spectators.

race numbers

If you register before midnight on Sunday 21st August, your race number will be posted out to you - please remember to tell us if your address changes! Runners who register after this date will collect their numbers on the morning of the race at their parking location.

facilties

Toilets: There are toilets at each base location; Warren Farm and Winchester Farm, as well as in the Finish Area.

Hot Drinks: There will be hot drinks and snacks at Warren Farm and Winchester Farm. After your run, if you fancy a bite to eat, please support the businesses in the gorge.

Bag Drop: There is a small bag drop for cyclists and people who have walked to the two farms, but there is no bag drop for people who have driven to the venues. Please run with your car keys.
