Wild Christmas Charity Run
Run the Wild are as passionate about running as we are about our local area, the beautiful Chilterns. We are always looking at ways to give back, whether via plogging (collecting rubbish as we run), or charitable events. This will be the second Wild Christmas Run, with profits going to charity! For 2020 we are pleased to announce that this year's charity will be The Hospice of St Francis.
We want to make this run as inclusive as we can, and we are encouraging runners to bring along other family members (this includes children and dogs!) by offering two distances and also a family ticket. The run will have two distances that you can choose from, a beautiful trail run of around 8km, and also a great 3km loop. Our Run Leaders will be providing trail running tips and environmental info along the way.
Prize for best fancy dress will be awarded at the finish! (fancy dress is optional)
Since this is a charitable event, our COVID policy is different to other events. If we are unable to run this event due to UK Government restrictions you will be automatically entered into a virtual event of the same distance for the planned date. All successful completions will receive a Run the Wild buff (free shipping to UK mainland). If you would prefer to receive a full refund (less booking fees) instead, then please write "full refund" on the booking form.
We are following current UK Government guidelines in delivering trail running events. They are conducted in line with England Athletics guidelines to ensure your safety. In addition, you will need to carry with you (not wear) until further notice a vapour resistant face mask and carry personal alcohol-based hand gel, as well as adhering to current social distancing guidelines.
A risk assessment has been completed, and will be updated, for all UK events with specific regard to COVID-19 and a COVID-19 action plan put in place, in addition to our standard risk assessments. Any updates to Government Guidance will be monitored, and procedures adjusted accordingly, and a COVID-19 secure environment will be maintained. All UK events are held in the outdoors with no requirement to be indoors at any time. All clients are asked to confirm they are exhibiting no symptoms prior to coming to a Run the Wild event, and are required to carry a vapour resistant face mask (checked on arrival), and hand gel. All participant contact details are recorded which can be shared upon request with the Government’s Test and Trace initiative. All guides carry a mask and hand sanitisers, and have been briefed on COVID-19 protocols in case of an emergency situation where the administering of first aid is required. In line with England Athletics guidance, and the provision of a COVID-19 secure environment, groups will be limited to a maximum of 12 clients per run leader, or when relevant will reflect any changes to the guidelines. We typically operate at a much lower guide to client ratio than this limit. These precautions will enable the continued safe running of our trips.
What we ask of you, the client:
- Please do not attend if you are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms, or if someone in your household is and requires you to self-isolate.
- Ensure you carry a vapour resistant face mask or face covering and personal alcohol-based hand gel, as you run.
- Please remain in your vehicle until you are asked to meet your run guide.
- Adhere to current social distancing guidelines before, during and after your run, with regards to other runners, and other trails users and members of the public.
- Good hygiene must be practised at all times. This includes bringing your own hand sanitiser, keeping the touching of gates to an absolute minimum, and a strict policy of no spitting while running.
- Please check your local government guidelines in regards to travel, public transport and overnight accommodation.

Food & Drinks
The event will start at 9.30am, at the Musette's, Aldbury, based in the quintessentially English village of Aldbury, which has free parking and is walking distance from Tring Station with direct train connections to London Euston. The event will finish around 11am (full details in your booking pack).
We will end the run back at the cafe for mince pies! Musettes is dog friendly, but please be respectful, not everyone loves excitable muddy dogs as much as we do!
You will need to arrange your own transport to the start of the adventure in Aldbury, but there are regular trains from London Euston to Tring Station which take around 40 minutes and is only a short walk to the meeting point. There is also an onsite free car park should you prefer to drive. Accommodation is available nearby, please get in touch if you would like any recommendations.
All abilities are catered for, so whether you are a new to trail running, or a veteran you're in good hands. This is a fun event, and a great opportunity to give back, so we really appreciate your support.
As with all Run the Wild events, it's a team event so you will be grouped with similar ability runners and led by one of our experienced Run Leaders. We walk anything too steep and it's a good opportunity to get some trail running tips along the way. First time trail runners welcome! Experienced ones are too as all of our guides will be out on the trails!
We welcome any age children under 16yrs, as long as they are running with an accompanying adult. You can even bring your 4-legged friend, we just ask that all dogs are run in canicross equipment only, and are kept on lead at all times. We also have only a limited number of places for dogs, so please do let us know in the message section of the booking form that you would like to bring a dog. We will not accept dogs being run with a lead attached to their collar (if you have any questions on this, please drop us an email and our resident canicrossers can suggest equipment providers, and even places to try out kit).
We will start the run at the Musette Cafe, based in the quintessentially English village of Aldbury. We will end the run back at the cafe for mince pies! Musettes is dog friendly, but please be respectful, not everyone loves excitable muddy dogs as much as we do!
First-hand event reviews from people who’ve been there, done that and got the breathable T-shirt, really help everyone choose their next event.
